Strategic Biofuels LLC is a renewable fuels project development company

Strategic Biofuels is developing a series of deeply negative carbon footprint plants that convert forestry waste from responsibly managed and sustainable plantation forests into clean-burning renewable transportation fuels. Growing the trees to a size that is usable for lumber requires periodic thinning of the trees, creating waste materials, to allow the remaining trees to grow bigger and faster. We create a new use for this forestry waste, thus improving economic returns in the timber industry.

Strategic Biofuels brings value to the environment and the communities where we work. We reduce greenhouse gas emissions by almost 400% compared to fossil fuel. We bring high paying jobs to the rural areas where we operate. We offer investment opportunities meeting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria to qualified investors.

Using Proven Technologies

Louisiana Green Fuels Plant at

The Port of Columbia, LA

Strategic Biofuels’ first plant, Louisiana Green Fuels (LGF), will produce jet fuel, known in the renewable fuels industry as sustainable aviation fuel or SAF.  It is located on a 327-acre site at the Port of Columbia in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana. The site is shovel ready and offers significant logistical, regulatory, and economic advantages.

Our fuels are made with proven,
licensed technologies

Strategic Biofuels is using proven technologies from world-class companies, implemented by the world’s smartest engineers, to produce our sustainable aviation fuel and capture the greenhouse gases produced. The greenhouse gases are safely and permanently stored deep underground using proven methods that are safe for people and safe for the environment.

Achieving a Negative Carbon Footprint Plant

How we turn forestry waste
into eco-friendly SAF

Most people know that the trees capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and release oxygen. However, most people don’t realize that once the tree dies the CO2 that was in it is released back into the atmosphere. Strategic Biofuels is using proven technologies from world-class companies, implemented by the world’s smartest engineers, to produce our sustainable aviation fuel and capture the greenhouse gases produced. The greenhouse gases are safely and permanently stored deep underground. When we use the waste from the managed, sustainable plantation forests as the feedstock for the SAF we interrupt that cycle. We convert the wood’s cellulose into carbon monoxide and hydrogen and then re-combine them to produce the hydrocarbon SAF, with carbon dioxide and water as byproducts. Since all the carbon stored underground originated as CO2 from the air, every day the plant operates we reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Since the carbon in the fuel came out of the atmosphere, when it is used in the aircraft, the airplane is just returning CO2 to the air that the trees had captured. This is quite different from fossil fuels when it is released into the atmosphere when used.

Reducing greenhouse gases
into eco-friendly SAF

During the process of converting wood into fuel, we’ll capture nearly all of the CO2 produced using safe, proven, and cost-effective technology. At the same time, we’ll capture contaminants in the wood, such as sulfur and nitrogen compounds, resulting in ultra-clean, high performance jet fuel. Just like synthetic motor oil is better than standard motor oil, our SAF is superior to conventional jet fuel. In fact, studies have shown that SAF reduces emissions from jet engines by 80% or more.

Safely storing carbon dioxide
deep underground

Geologic carbon sequestration has a decades long track record across the globe proven to be safe and secure. The captured CO2 at the LGF plant will be nearly 100% pure and injected deep underground thousands of feet below any drinking water aquifer where the same forces that have held oil and gas underground for millions of years. This process is known as carbon sequestration.  The US EPA Class VI sequestration wells used to inject the CO2 are highly regulated by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. Strategic Biofuels completed the stratigraphic test well program in 2021 that has proven that the Port of Columbia site has ideal geologic conditions for sequestration.
